New VOX Cinemas at The Avenues – Bahrain: Havelock AHI completes interiors
Havelock AHI, a prominent regional interior contractor and manufacturer, has proudly contributed to taking the cinematic experience in Bahrain to the next level: The recently opened first standalone VOX Cinemas invites movie buffs to enjoy the latest blockbusters across ten screens while indulging in premium dining and entertainment concepts such as THEATRE by Rhodes and MAX.
Starting with a mere core and shell space of almost 5,000 m2 in June 2017, Majid Al Futtaim had tasked Havelock AHI to deliver the fast-track cinema project within 150 days. The tight schedule and complex logistics at the newly opened mall required a strong team effort as well as dedicated planning, management and close cooperation with all stakeholders to turn the challenge into the success it has proven to be.

Majid Al Futtaim’s VOX Cinemas at The Avenues Bahrain, a new waterfront shopping centre located at Bahrain Bay, features two floors, including a ticket and concession area on the ground floor with escalators and elevators leading to the first-floor grand lobby. The first floor features additional concession counters and access to the auditoria including the mega-screen experience MAX, and six standard 2D and 3D screens with VIP seating. It also houses THEATRE by Rhodes, VOX Cinemas’ unique pairing of fine food and film in partnership with Michelin-starred Chef Gary Rhodes. The F&B floor space consists of kitchens, a juice bar, a restaurant with a seating area and has direct access to the three luxurious THEATRE by Rhodes auditoria.
Havelock AHI’s scope of work entailed all tasks related to civil, MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, LV, fire detection and suppression, access control and theatre management systems) and final finishes including marble, tiling, joinery, wallpaper and carpets. The fit-out scope included all joinery items such as doors, vomitory walls, reception, ticket and concession counters, ticket tear podiums, the juice bar, wall panels and mirrored walls, toilet cubicles and vanity counters, as well as mirrors and sanitary ware, marble cladding and solid surface (Corian) works.
Given the fast-track programme, and the need to coordinate different specialists and trades, the workforce for the project counted 250 men on site per day, on average; however, at the peak of works, 750 men ensured a smooth and timely delivery of the project.
Currently, the UAE team of Havelock AHI is working on the 15-screen VOX Cinemas project at Nakheel Mall on Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, scheduled to open in spring 2018.
